Caught this film on New Year's Day. I was really attracted to the trailer when it was shown in December. After the movie, i wasn't really that impressed. Before you catch this movie, be prepared to catch the 2nd or even the 3rd part of the story cause i think this might be a trilogy.

The story is about an orphan, name Lyra who live in another universe where human souls are reside out side their body onto an animal called daemon. In this universe, the magistarium tries to control everything and restricts freedom where Lyra's uncle (she later found out he was actually his dad) found a new way to contact other universe which the magistarium is preventing him to do so. Meanwhile, children from this universe are being kidnap by the so called 'Globblers'. Lyra's adventure begins when Mrs Coulter (Nicole Kidman) brought her on a journey to the North, possessing the Golden Compass that tells the truth to a trained reader .

I personally find that the show sped through the foundations and facts of the plot. Before you can get a grasp of what is really going on and why are they fighting, you are already seeing the war scene. Nevertheless, i really like the special effects that were given to the animals. I think the children's' daemons are the coolest because they have yet to stabilize and take any specific form, the animals can practically change into any type of animals.
