Melbourne Museum
Monday 31 March 2008

It's the last day of my hols and i'll be back to school to start my last sem here in Melb tomorrow. So I decided to visit the Melbourne Museum this afternoon. I always have the impression that museum does not allow visitors to take photographs but I am so wrong. It was such a big mistake that i didnt bring my camera along. Nevertheless, I had a very enjoyable 3 hours stay in the museum.

There were many different sections in the museum. We started out with a visit to Forestry exhibition then to Body and Mind and followed by The Melbourne Story (which is some what similar to the Singapore Story if you have been to the Singapore Museum). Next, we move on to see the Aboriginal culture and heritage and ended with the Life and Science quadrant.
I couldn't resist the temptation to take these butterflies pics when we were at the bugs and insects section

This is another one that i really like. I love going to museum because I get to learn and widen my general knowledge on so many things.

I'm not too sure if the cold weather here really have something to do with the increase level of my hubby-to-be sense of humor. But then again, his sense of humor is kinda lame as well:

Me: How are we going to finish this big pot of tea? See there is still so much left

Him: Come let's Chai Quan.

I'm back from my retreat to Wilson Prom! We set out on a bright and sunny Tuesday and I was really excited about the whole trip because i'm going to experience something different where there will be lots of hiking, nature walks and viewing of widelife.

After a 3 hours drive, we finally arrived at our destination at Yanakie, a small town 10 km away from Wilson Prom nature reserve. We check into our self-contained cabin and I fall in love with the decor. There were hand made quilts, cushions covers and even the 'key chain' was so unique.

It was already 3+ in the afternoon so we decided to do some exploring and a short walk in the reserve. There as a beach right outside our cabin and we headed right out there to take some pics.

The cabin owners stayed right next to us and they rear some cattles. Actually, i only saw 3 ox and the pic below show one of it. Every morning, I will wake up to the moo-ing of the ox. hahahaha...

Then we drove out to the park. It is one of the largest nature reserve in Melbourne in the Southernmost point in mainland Australia. The park has a length of 30km from the entrance to the other end. It was already 4pm by the time we started walking so we chose a much shorter trek so as to make sure that we can finish it before it gets dark. I was thrill to see a wild wallabee busy munching away while we were trying our best to walk very slowly pass it so as to make sure it will not be scare by us and hop away.

We saw the same wallabee again when we back track out way back. Unfortunately for us, day 2 was a disaster. Rain was pouring the entire night and i was just hoping the sky will clear in the morning. But, it just kept raining the entire day. Before we set out, we caught this beautiful rainbow right outside our cabin. It was so lovely.

Despite the rain, we decided to go back to the reserve again since we have already travelled such a long way. And then we saw this sign 'Singapore Deep 2'. I told dar i gotta take this pic. hahahaha.. it actually provides accomodation to people like us but i have no idea whether the owners are Singaporeans or not.

The weather was really bad so the pics that we took didn't have a really fantastic view, but if you were to see the actual thing, it will take your breath away because the mountains, beaches and all those vegetation look so magnificent.

More greenery hills and mountains....

We drove right to the end of the park and reach the peak. It was freezing and yes, it was still raining. The view was really great but some how the photographs just cannot catch the beauty of it. We decided to head back to our cabin but the rain seems to be getting lighter so we thought why not take a walk at the next stop on our way back. Big Mistake!! The rain started pouring again and it just came on us when we were halfway through the trek and both of us were drench and soaking wet by the time we ran back to the car.

What an experience. I would love to go back to Wilson Prom again.
Oh, on a sidenote it was really quite sad when u see wildlife got killed by cars. We seen more wallabee and wombat carcasses then living wildlife. Hai..

The weather has finally started to cool off with the fall coming slightly later this year. Me, dar, ashley and eison decided to pay Miss Marples a visit. It has been more than 6 months since i last came here and the scones were still as yummy!

After lunch, we stroll along the shops. That hand puppet I am holding onto is really very cute but guess what, its cost AU$50!! Freaking ex..

As we walked further down the lane, we saw this huge pot with logs burning and it has a sign that says the marshmallows are free for anyone who would like to roast it. See Ashley having so much fun

Then we saw this 'thingy' which i have no idea what's it called (see the pic below). It was really cute and it brought back some childhood memories where i think most of us would have taken pics of the same sort when we were much younger.

We drove up to the observatory deck and took a walk in the garden. The daisies are having their last bloom before summer ends.

I love this pic below. I know i took a similar one the last time i went to Mt Dandenong but this time round, the bee looks even bigger on this small, little flower.

Well, Mr Ong was way too free with the camera in hand so he took this pic.

What an exhausting day. We have been packing and moving our stuff to the new place since 9 in the morning and now, its 830pm in Melb. I'm so tired now and i can't wait to get into bed.

By 530pm, me and dar were more or less done with our packing and clearing at the new place. Since we had a couple of things to buy at the local supermarket, we decided to take a break at a local cafe before heading out to the supermart. The tiramisu (the one that i'm eating) was really good.. Yummy!!

Gotta go back to the old place to clean up tml. Another tiring day. :(

Today's dinner was rather unique. I had it in a tram, which is call the Tramcar Resturant. Trams are a one of its kind transport that can only be found in Melbourne when u are in Aussie. The company came up with an idea of combining f&b and transport together to provide a unique dining experience for the passengers. This pic was taken before we board the tram.

We got a pretty good seat at the back of the tram tuck in a corner. I was excited so keep asking dar to take lots of pics. We started our dinning with appetiser of crackers and dips and fresh toasted rolls.

While waiting for our main course to arrive, I took a pic for dar. Check out the background and the whole layout of the tram.

Both of us ordered the Prime eye fillet of beef with rosti and long beans. Tasted good but not as great as the one we had in Tasmania.

For desserts, I had White Chocolate and Passionfruit Mousse with praline and vanilla rasberry syrup. This 'praline' thingy is really very very tasty though i have no idea what it is. If you look into the pic below, its those bits of brownish, crispy stuff on top of the mousse.

Dar had his fav dessert - Warm Sticky Date Pudding topped with butterscotch sauce served with cream. I'm no fan of sticky date pudding so its not quite fair for me to rate this dish.

Finally, after tea and coffee we arrived back to where we started from. This is how the entire tram looks like from the outside. I would highly recommend anyone who is coming to Melb for holiday purpose to give it a try because its a really unique experience, but you gotta reserve at a much earlier date because they are book out every single day.

It's been quite sometime since i had so much fun. Today is the last day of the Moomba Festival here is Melb. It is an annual event that is celebrated during their Labour Day in March. 'Moomba' is an aboriginal word that stands for 'let's get together and have fun'. Traditionally, there will be a carnival, floats and fireworks. They held the floats parade in Swanston Street every year but i miss out. So in the evening, we went to Yarra River to take a look at the carnival and most importantly, to see the fireworks.

Check out all the food and games stalls. After a quick bite, me and dar took a pic together. Its been quite sometime since we had one. Well, the carnival had its fair share of thrill rides and games stalls. Of course there are also popcorn and candy stands. Because it was organise next to a river, there are also some water activities as well.

I'm not really interested in those games so we decided to find a good spot to catch the fireworks display. We climb up a slope and got a much higher viewing ground. See the pic below, all those stalls, ferris wheel and all that crowd.

The video below is just a small part of the fireworks display. I guess anyone who has seen an actual display of fireworks will agree that it look so much more beautiful when it's right before you. More interesting updates coming along tomorrow!!

Thursday 6 March 2008

Finally!!! The exams are all over and right now, all i wish is that i made it through every single module. I'm so tired that all i can think about is lying on my comfy bed and take a nice nap. But i can't!!! Because i gotta start packing and move out of this house to our new home. Thanks to our landlord who kick us out. I still prefer this house cause its really big and cosy. Its really difficult to find such a large apartment in the city because most of the apartment in town are really small.

Anyway, i can't wait to enjoy my hols even though i'll b doing nothing much for the first week except dealing with all the moving. I'm trying to plan some stuff so i guess my blog will come back to life again!!
